New Thornback & Peel Designs for Christmas

Since we introduced Thornback & Peel aprons and tea towels a couple of months ago, they’ve been selling like the proverbial hot cakes and we’ve been adding new stock as fast as we can.

To add to your festive cheer, we’ve now introduced two new Christmas tea towel designs that will be perfect for putting a smile of your face when it comes to the mountain of washing-up on Christmas Day!

These are Robin & Holly and Stag & Mistletoe. Both are available now from our eBay store.

The BIG Cooks & Kitchens Sale

Our most comprehensive sale ever starts at 9.30am on December 27th.

Most of Cooks & Kitchens’ stock will be on offer at 25% OFF, making it a one-off opportunity to make substantial savings if you’re thinking of replacing that old knife set, glassware or cutlery. The iconic brands on offer include Robert Welch, Wusthof, WMF and Leonardo.

All our cookware will be discounted by 25% as well, so it’s a great time to trade-up to the likes of Michel Roux’s ceramic-coated stainless steel collection (boxed sets available) or WMF’s ageless and beautifully-engineered Gourmet Plus range..

Crossing into bakeware and oven-to-table, Mermaid, Silverwood’s Delia Smith Collection and Pillivuyt all get 25% reductions.

You can also save 10% on electricals, and this is pretty much the only time of year when we’re able to offer electricals discounts. That equates to over £40 off a KitchenAid mixer or a mouth-watering £99 off a Jura ENA9 coffee machine.

Whilst we’re not discounting our artisan food in general, all the festive lines will be on big discounts, so you might want to pop in and grab something before the New Year catering starts!

Just to recap, it’s big discounts on festive food, 10% OFF electricals and 25% OFF virtually everything else.

As stock tends to disappear rapidly during sale time (most of our suppliers are closed), please call 01325 352111 if you’re after something specific.

Robert Welch Signature Knives – only £110

Robert Welch Signature knives have been the most significant introduction to the UK market since Global knives over 20 years ago and the range now has a very loyal and growing following.

For Christmas 2013, we have been able to secure promotional stock of several products, so you might want to give us a call to check what we have in stock, but the most important offer is the 4 piece set.

This comprises a very usable collection of knives in the shape of the 20cm ‘standard’ Cook’s Knife, the 14cm Kitchens Knife and the 10cm paring Knife.

The set also includes the RW Signature sharpener which, being specially shaped to the edge contours of the Signature range, is probably the best domestic sharpener available for the range (RW don’t use a straight taper edge, preferring a slight bevel).

We have a limited stock of this set at £110, saving nearly £30. That’s not far off the price of a single Global cook’s knife!

For more information about Robert Welch, please see the brand page on our website.

A Very Special Wusthof Offer

Wusthof have a long history of allowing their main dealers (like us) to offer their knife block sets at discounted prices throughout the year. But it’s not often that they make smaller, more affordable sets available at deep discounts.

That’s probably why we’ve already had to re-order this one after only a few days!

The set comprises the ‘standard’ 20cm (8″) Cook’s Knife, the 10cm (4″) Paring knife and Wusthof’s effective 2 stage sharpener.

While stocks last, we’re offering this at £115. That’s a really good saving of £60 against the normal price when bought separately and is a fantastic way to introduce yourself (or someone else) to some of the best knives in the World.

There’s more about Wusthof Knives on our Wusthof page.

Please call us on 01325 352111 to check availability.

Stuff Those Stockings – Pre-Christmas Event

Once again, we’re running our special pre-Christmas sale to give everyone the opportunity to buy gifts for their loved ones at some fantastic prices. It’s only on for 3 days from tomorrow, though.

Finally, if you’re wondering why we’ve excluded our existing knife deals from the sale (single knives are included), it’s because the ones we’re offering are so good. For example, we have a combination Wusthof pack of a 20cm cooks knife, 10cm parer and a sharpener for £115  – that’s a saving of over £60 on our regular prices.

Artisan Food Tastings

Why not add a bit of excitement to your shopping by dropping into Cooks & Kitchens during our Artisan Food Tastings?

As part of the introduction of our new Artisan Pantry, we’re running tasting events on Friday and Saturday of this week (15/16 November), between 10.30am and 4.30pm. This weeks tastings will focus on “The Best of British” and, in addition to being able to taste some superb offerings, we’ll be talking about the heritage and provenance behind the various producers.

As members of the Guild of Fine Foods, we’ll have plenty of Great Taste Award winners.

Some of the delights on offer are Hawkshead Relishes (over 40 Great Taste Awards), Truffle Hunter flavoured oils, Boulevard Smoked Oils, Le Mesurier sauces and mayonnaises, Womersley flavoured vinegars, Wild at Heart jellies and much more.

Click here for more details of our new Artisan Pantry range or call 01325 35211 for more details on the tastings.

Bovetti Chocolate is a Hit with Customers

We only introduced  our Artisan Pantry range of foods last week, and the first tastings don’t take place until this Friday. Despite that, some Cooks & Kitchens customers couldn’t wait!
It’s been fantastic to have people get as excited about the products as we are and is reducing our nervousness at having spent quite a bit of time and money getting this side of the business up-and-running. Thank you – you know who you are!

The front-runners at the moment probably reflect the pre-Christmas period, because the Hawkshead Relish gift packs have nearly sold out already (more about to be ordered), whilst Le Mesurier sauces (brilliant quality!) and Lewis & Cooper Christmas Puds (why travel to Northallerton?) have gone down very well.

A range that has really caught the imagination is Bovetti  Chocolate, something you won’t find much of in the UK . As the image illustrates, it’s pretty special-looking, but it tastes even better. Unusually for a chocolatier with a global reputation, Valter Bovetti, an Italian, started creating his chocolates only 10 years ago. Based in France, he’s built a reputation for innovation and quality control that goes right through to having direct relationships with cacao plantations.

At the moment, we have the Dark Chocolate Christmas Tree (pictured), Milk Chocolate Salted Caramel and White Chocolate Dried Raspberry.

KitchenAid Promotion – Free Ice Cream Maker worth £77!

From this week until Christmas, we’re offering a fantastic deal of a FREE Ice Cream Maker attachment when you buy any 4.8 or 6.9 litre KitchenAid Artisan Mixer (the 4.8 litre is the one you’re probably familiar with).

The ice cream maker (as shown on the right) is much more than an attachment. In fact, once you take the bowl out of the freezer, you have everything you need to make superb traditional ice cream or gelati.

These usually cost £77, so I wouldn’t hang around if you’re interested in buying a mixer for Christmas or to cope with the pre-Christmas catering – we’re an authorised KitchenAid Centre, but we still struggle for stock when there’s a promotion running.

If you’d like to know more about what makes these machines so sought-after, please see our KitchenAid page, where we have some videos, or call into the shop for some impartial advice.

New Guatemalan Coffee

New Coffee

San Francisco Tecuamburro

  • Region: Santa Rosa
  • Altitude: 1,460-1,770m
  • Variety: Bourbon (80%), Catuaí
  • Processing: Fully washed and dried on patio
  • Owner: Sergio Barillas Escamilla

We have an excellent new coffee on it’s way!

As our Guatemalan Los Nubes was starting to get a little old (the currently available green beans are from the last harvest), we had a chat with our green bean importer, who has just secured barrels of new harvest green beans from Finca San Francisco Tecuamburro, also in Guatemala.

Quality-wise, it’s on a par with Los Nubes (which I love), but it’s a more distinctive coffee, with a high proportion of Bourbon beans, that is generally bought up by gourmet coffee roasters in the USA. Of course, just being new harvest will give it an edge on the taste front.

It’s a high-grown coffee (average 1500 metres) with the distinction of the farm being in an extinct v0lcano crater with very fertile soils.  The coffee cherries are hand-picked over several passes and the wet-processing uses local spring water.

New Nespresso Promotion

Nespresso promotions are always incredibly popular, and this year will be no exception. As a very special offer, the vouchers for 2013 are set at 2 levels.

If you buy a coffee-only (espresso) machine, you’ll receive the previous promotional voucher of £40 for Nespresso Club purchases (that includes coffee). However, if you buy a machine that includes a built-in milk system or buy one of the coffee-only machine + Aeroccino bundles, you’ll receive a £70 credit – that’s a great offer when bundles start at well under £200!

The machines will be selling fairly quickly, so please call 01325 352111 to check stock if you’re wanting to buy straight away. If the model/colour you want is out of stock, we can usually get it within 72 hours.
