Bridgewater
Emma Bridgewater has been responsible, almost single-handedly, for the revival of hand-finished English earthenware. Remarkably, the business is a product of the 1980's and is one of the few Stoke potteries to have expanded over the past 20 years. All Bridgewater earthenware, whether sponged or lithographed, is now produced from a large Victorian pottery in the Hanley district of Stoke. All decoration is under-glaze with sponged piece needing 2 firings and lithographed pieces a third firing. As a result, Bridgewater products combine the ruggedness needed for modern kitchens with designs that are already modern classics.
