Koziol
Koziol is a family-run German housewares company that, whilst little-known in the UK, has a fantastic reputation in continental Europe for its continued process innovation and design leadership.
Under the leadership of Bernhard Koziol from its inception in 1927 until 1980, the company emerged from WW2 and its origins in ivory carving and basic plastics to embrace the technical possibilities of plastics (Koziol invented the liquid-filled snow scene!).
By 1980, Koziol was a firmly-established German housewares manufacturer with a penchant for constant development. However, the Koziol we see today is very much the brainchild of Stephan Koziol, one of Bernhard's sons. In very much the same way that Alerto Alessi transformed the Italian company, Stephan moved Koziol into a design-led period that has cemented its Worldwide status. In essence, the Koziol mantra is based on providing products that, whilst fulfilling their functional need, are radically reworked to deliver greater satisfaction to the user - whether through humour or aesthetics. Today, Koziol still produces its products in the Odenwald forest and yet plays host to some of the leading superstars of the design world such as Matteo Thun and Alessandro Mendini.
