Meet the Team

Andy Atkins
Andy founded Cooks&Kitchens with Mary after spending several years travelling the World in the
housewares industry and wondering why many of the best products weren't easily found in the UK. Like
most of the people involved in the business, Andy is a 'real food' enthusiast but he's also known for
applying his own rules when using recipes! He's our resident knives and coffee expert.

|
Mary Atkins
A co-founder of the business, Mary does most of the buying in addition to spending a lot of time talking
to customers in the shop (about products, cooking, food, preserving, restaurants, local producers... you can
see where her interests lie!
Mary's particularly keen on all aspects of baking, jamming and puds. She even knows how to convert cake mixes
for different tin sizes!

Helen McGonigal
Helen’s the youngest member of the team (her university days are still a recent memory!). Whilst she’s a keen and experimental cook, her early experiences of a largely self-sufficient family life result in an appreciation of home-grown, ‘simple’ foods.
As a devotee of ‘British’ food, Helen’s seems happiest when discussing stockpots, cake tins and herb mixes. Fortunately, she’s also pretty organised and possesses an almost photographic memory for the hundreds of products that we stock.

Beverley Cartwright
As our newest recruit, Beverley’s still on the massive learning curve that our staff have to suffer in becoming specialists in everything from coffee-making to using tandoors!
However, she has the advantage of Cordon Bleu training and a lifetime of feeding a family with varied tastes, from carnivore to vegetarian.
As a bonus, Beverley’s just returned from several years living in the U.S. and this has provided a perspective on a culinary tradition that has a distinctly different cultural and ingredient heritage to our own.
